On Saturday 11 January 2025, Global Tonga Golf (GTG) hosted a fantastic social round at the stunning Formosa Golf Resort in Auckland to raise awareness about good health as the foundation for a good life.
As we begin the year, our theme encourages friends and families to prioritize their health, a small step toward avoiding preventable diseases and building stronger, happier communities.
A special mālō ‘aupito to our generous sponsors, the 𝐀𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐚 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐖𝐀), for their support and prizes through the Whanau Ora program. Big thanks also to GTG members who kindly donated additional prizes. Your contributions made the day extra special!
It was a beautiful day, full of smiles, great swings, and meaningful conversations. Thank you to everyone who joined us, you’re helping us make a difference one swing at a time!
Let’s keep promoting good health and enjoying life on and off the greens!
At the Manukau Cruising Club on Friday last week, a memorable evening honoured the two major milestones achieved by Akiheuho this year. The first recognition celebrated the Whānau Ora team, who received the Core Performance Award at the Pasifika Futures (PFL) Whānau Ora Conference in August. The second accolade was the Manaaki Award, presented to the Aotearoa Tongan Response Group (ATRG) by Horticulture NZ in recognition of their dedicated support for Tongan RSE workers affected by Cyclone Gabrielle’s devastating flooding last year.
CEO Makahokovalu Pailate warmly welcomed guests and attendees, recounting the significance of these achievements before presenting flower bouquets to Whānau Ora team members, including Susi Tameifuna (team leader), Sipinga To’ofohe, Tina Fifita and Moeaki Vehikite. Chair of the Tongan Health Workers Association, Mr. Manu Fotu, extended words of gratitude for the team’s hard work, briefly discussing the Association’s role in supporting families’ health and welfare.
Staff and volunteers who traveled to Hawkes Bay for the relief efforts received gifts in acknowledgment of their support work. The evening featured “māfana” speeches during dinner, while lively music set the tone for a joyful celebration, leaving attendees happy and satisfied.
𝑨𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅, 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒁𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 – 𝑶𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓 7, 2024 – ‘Ākiheuho Pacific Dementia Māngalo, is thrilled to announce the opening of its new office located at 45 Mount Wellington Highway, Mt Wellington, Auckland.
The opening ceremony, held on Monday, October 7th at 12pm, was a joyous occasion attended by distinguished guests, board members, staff, and community leaders. The event began with an arrival of guests, followed by an opening prayer led by Fr Lui Tu’ilotolava, of the Ōtāhuhu Anglican Church.
Manu Fotu, the ‘Ākiheuho Board Chairman, delivered a warm welcome speech, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to providing compassionate care and resources to those impacted by dementia. The blessing of the new office was also conducted by Fr Lui Tu’ilotolava, symbolising the spiritual significance of this milestone.
“This new space will allow us to expand our services and better support those living with dementia and their families,” said Maka Pailate, the CEO of ‘Ākiheuho.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Maka, a closing prayer and blessing of the food by Fr Tu’ilotolava, and a tour of the new office led by Tevita Vungamoeahi, the Project Manager. Attendees then enjoyed a lunch, networking, and kava.
The opening of the new ‘Ākiheuho Pacific Dementia Māngalo office marks a significant milestone in the organisation’s history and its continued efforts to improve the lives of those affected by dementia in the Tongan and Pacific communities of Auckland.
