MISSION

To advance the wellbeing of the Tongan community through community engagement, family empowerment, individual leadership and organizational effectiveness

Who We Are

Aotearoa Tongan Health Workers’ Association Incorporated (“ATHWA”), trading name AKIHEUHO. We were formed in response to the rising unmet health needs of the Tongan community both in New Zealand and back in Tonga. Our vision is to have a healthy and prosperous Tongan and Pacific community in New Zealand and abroad.

CREDIBILITY

ATHWA was incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on 25 July 2005 as a result of a request by a group of Tongans working in the health sector.

COLLABORATIONS

One of the significant achievements for the association is its collaborations with agencies, government officials and communities in Tonga as well as support from within New Zealand’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and Members of Parliament.

STRENGTH

The strength of the association has been in the good will/love and determination of its members to enable and strengthen Tongan communities in New Zealand and abroad.
